Description
Lough Hyne is Ireland’s first Marine Nature Reserve and unique sea-water lake. Lough Hyne is one of the most beautiful lakes in West Cork and is on the Wild Atlantic Way. It offers a range of activities for visitors, from swimming, kayaking and diving to hill walking. Lough Hyne, sometimes also spelt Lough Ine, is a truly unique place. The saltwater lake is connected to the ocean via a narrow tidal channel. Twice a day, the tide is flushing fresh ocean water into the lake, thereby creating a unique habitat with a large diversity of marine plants and animals.
